All I can say is: role-play. I made this forum as a role-play haven for those who need one.

I am fifteen and I live in Texas. I've had an interesting life; a bit rough. A lot goes on down here for a southern town. I never thought the South could be so dangerous.
I am an author and an artist. You will not find my art here or anywhere else. I don't own a scanner and I can't draw something digitally to save my life. I live with a foster family and have many friends.
I'm bisexual. I recently had heart surgery; a transplant. I was born with a weak heart. I wear contacts and have a weird little birthmark on my left shoulder that looks like a wing. My best friend, Torrie, is planning to get a wind tattoo on her right shoulder. We'll be wing buddies.
I love animals; I love them so much that I've gone vegetarian. I've been a vegetarian since 2004, and not a single scrap of meat has passed my lips. I am very imaginative and I use strange, personal, made-up sayings. I sometimes substitue the word 'ham sandwhich' for curse words.

Rofl, so I did. I am in total role-play mode right now. I think all other functions have shut down. I feel no hunger, no pain, no fatigue. I feel only...role-play lust.

Oh, this is my kind of place! Ah, literature! My baby, my friend, my ally! Anyway, enough of the theatrics. Let's move on, shall we?
This is a place for you to share your stories, poems, and all other literature-related creations you may have stashed away. Feel free to discuss literature as well. As long as you do so in a calm, mature manner I'm fine.
This is super-important:
If your story contains violence/ curse words/ sexual content, please post a warning before the story. Young children may play on this site. I don't mean to be a downer, but I would like to protect the youth of today. My generation's already wasted, so I'm trying not to waste them, you see? Thank you.
That's it! Thanks, 'kbai!
Simple

I believe that we all know how a General section works, correct? We've all posted on them before, right? Right. Remember to be polite and aware of other users' limitations. Intelligent debates are fine, but do not break down into caveman, throwing insults at each other, childish arguments. Keep on-topic, also. No spamming.
Thanks and go wild!

I guess we do need this. :D I have other forums that may come in handy for learning how to role-play. Plus I'm hosting a story on another site of mine; a freeweb. It has a forum with a collaboration project, so I figure it's kind of important.

Freeweb: http://www.freewebs.com/lirath/index.htm
These next few might be helpful depending on what writing program you have.

Right, moving on. This is a place where I and my staff members will post forum news. We would like to keep you all informed, so check back now and then. I'll probably send out an announcement through the PM system about a new news post.

How to Role-play
July 23, 2008 by lirath
Welcome to Caroline's HOW TO ROLE-PLAY. This is the part of the forum where I teach everyone what role-playing is, the terms you need to know, and role-playing etiquette. :D Are we all excited? Excellent! Here to help me today is Vincent. Vincent, say hello.
Eh.
Good enough. NOW, LET'S GET THIS SHOW ON THE...Vince?! Put that chainsaw down! >c

Ahem. The art of role-playing is an ancient, powerful one. Well, I don't know about ancient, but it is powerful! Just the whisper of the word 'role-play' sets people on edge and makes them long for the adventure role-playing brings. In role-play, two or more people come together on a forum (usually a forum xD) and create a story together. The starter of the forum is the one who types up a plot, which the members help to build up. The starter also posts rules and regulations; little tips and guidelines for the role-play. He or she may also post a setting and a skeleton. I'll explain that word later under the "Terms to Know" section of this topic.
As the story goes along, the plot begins to unfold. Changes may take place and twists and turns may appear in the paths of the characters created for the story. Usually members create their own characters for the role-play, but in some role-plays the starter has pre-made characters to be used. Many Dragon role-plays are like that; with pre-made eggs and Dragon appearances. However, in most cases with pre-made characters, the members who choose them get to make either the personality or the appearance. It all depends on the way the starter chooses to role-play. It doesn't take many people to start up a good role-play, though the saying goes "the more the merrier". Two people can have a role-play. Together they think of a story and make characters for themselves. It is just like a normal role-play, but with only two people. These are called One-on-Ones. There are many variations of the name. 1 x 1, One x One, Mano a Mano; the list is endless. These shall be done through the PM (Private Message) system here on Xanarth.
If you plan to start a role-play of your own, please remember good grammar and the rules of the site. The role-play rules are yours to create, but always state "no powerplaying" and "no godmoding" as two of them. These terms will be explained shortly, and they are not tolerated by most people in the role-playing world. They are annoyances.
// Terms to Know \\
* Godmoding: creating and playing a character that has no weakness/ infinite power/ etcetera. These are also called Mary-lus and Gary-stus sometimes.
* Powerplaying: taking control of another user's character and playing it as your own without their permission to do so. Please refrain from doing this.
* One-on-One: a private role-play between two people. These are usually romance role-plays, but not always. Please notice the word private. These "stories" are to be composed through the PM system.
* Skeleton: no, it's not something that you have in your closet. A skeleton in the role-playing world is the outline of a bio. It's a list, if you will. It will often include a place to put your character's name, their age, their race, and their gender. These four sections are the most common in skeletons. They are used to map out your character and give everyone a clear view of what they look like and who they are.
I think that's all that needs explaining for now. If you're still a little shaky on the basics and whatnot, please refrain from starting a role-play until you've talked to me and got it all down. Thank you!

FAQ
July 23, 2008 by lirath
Evening. It's more like morning here, actually. I stayed up all Monday night, and then all day yesterday. I only had about seven hours of sleep; I slept from 5:00 P.M. to 1:00 A.M. this morning. I spent the two hours after I woke up working on this site. You're so lucky that you have an administrator like me. <3 Anyway, on to the Frequently Asked Questions!
Q: What kind of forum is this?
A: This is a role-playing/ writing community where everyone is welcome. We offer fun and freedom from the hectic real world.
Q: Why is the scheme so dark?
A: I happen to like black and green, and I know that many people do. It's a good scheme.
Q: Can I become staff?
A: Again, don't call us; we'll call you.
Q: Why is it called Xanarth?
A: Xanarth is a magical world. It was created by me, and I felt that it needed some recognition. It's a world that was plagued by peril. It was completely Mortal-free for thousands of years, but they eventually found a way to transport armies into the lush landscape. They burned and pilaged until there was nothing left but a few locals who would not give up and the ashes of a once beautiful world. Many years later, a young girl named Suzanne met up with Rocky, an Air Elf from Xanarth. He was supposedly a refugee who had wound up in the human world; in Clear Springs, Montana, to be more precise. The two befriended each other and had many adventures together before their little family of magical creatures began to grow. Suzanne, now called Arcadian by the Xanarthians, had inherited her parents' money and their family home (Crenson Mansion), so there was plenty of room and lots of food to spare. As their family grew, so did their troubles. They discovered that after the Mortals left Xanarth, an evil, tyrannical man had "ascended" to power. When they found that there was a way to reclaim their homeland and save the remaining inhabitants, they wasted no time in going there. Arcadian takes her first journey into Xanarth in the third book of the series (which I am currently working on), and she pretty much saves the day. The first two recount how she met with the creatures in turn and what adventures they had before the greatest one of all.
That's enough of an explanation, correct?
Q: Why was that so long?
A: Hey, you asked.
Q: What's role-play?
A: See the "How to Role-play" topic.
Q: Do we win money in contests?
A: No, silly. I don't have any cash. I'm dirt poor. They're just for fun.
Q: Can I have more than one account?
A: No, please.
Q: Why can't I?
A: It kind of gives you an unfair advantage over everyone else. Let's keep it at one account.
Q: How do I retrieve my password?
A: It usually says "Forgot password" somewhere on the login screen. You enter your username, and it sends the password to you via e-mail.
Q: How do I freeze/ delete my account?
A: You can't. Simply as that. At least...I don't think you can.
Q: How do I change my username?
A: Don't think you can, kid.
Q: How do I send someone a PM?
A: I think you have to click on their username (which leads to their profile) and then click "PM this person". It should say that or something along the lines of that. I'm not used to this particular forum yet, so be patient. I'll get it down.
THE END.
Rules
July 23, 2008 by lirath
Welcome to Xanarth. I am Lirath and I run this forum. I would like to post some rules and guidelines before we continue on to the good stuff, which shall be posted in other categories. Later, we'll get to learn how to role-play and how to contact me. We'll also chat and throw things at each other. Sounds fun, huh?
Rule # 1:
Do not ask for anyone's personal information (address, phone #, gender). If they wish to give it, they will do so in the 'Contact Information' category. If you get a message asking for information, please report it straight to me. I will deal with the culprit.
Rule # 2:
Do not send threatening or slanderous messages to other members of the forum. Do not post their private business on the forum unless they give you permission to do so. Their private life is theirs alone. Do not badger someone into telling you private business. You don't need to know if their parents divorced or if someone died. It's their business.
Rule # 3:
Do not advertise inappropriate products, sites, or otherwise on this forum. Small children may play on here, and most of us do not want to read or watch porno, or purchase a six pack of Miller Lite. We want to role-play and chat in a friendly, appropriate environment.
Rule # 4:
I feel like Genie from Aladdin. You know? With the rules. Anyway, as I stated in the 'About' section of the forum, I have nothing against curse words, gun fights, and sex. It is a role-playing site. Things might get a little messy. It's only natural; especially for teenagers like myself. I, personally, love violence in a role-play. However, young children like role-playing, too. We must be fair to them by posting a warning in the first post of every role-play we create. If you know there's going to be sex/ gun fights/ curse words, say so and I will accept it. If you do not post a warning and a young child reads it, I will hold you accountable. That means big-time major chew-out. I get very angry sometimes. Mood disorders aren't fun, kiddies. No they aren't.
Rule # 5:
This girl. She just keeps coming with the rules. This one involves staff positions. If you'd like to become a member of staff, you must prove yourself worthy. Throw yourselves before the might of the currect staff members and beg for the chance to impress us! Mwahahaha! No, I'm kidding. That's not how it works. We want to see you helping the site members; doing your best to be a good member of the forum. We may pick and choose moderators or admins at random. We may or may not hold a contest at some point. There are requirements: good grammar, a pretty clean record, determination, and imagination are big parts of the deal. We also want a staff memeber who will stay on; who won't flake on us. If you know you won't make it, just say so and we won't choose you.
Rule # 6:
Two more 6's behind that and we'd have the anti-Christ rule. Try not to use chat-speak when IC (in character). OOC (out of character) chat-speak is fine, but IC chat-speak is not. Not everyone knows how to speak in tongues.
Rule # 7:
Don't call us; we'll call you.

Welcome Message to New Members

Hello! Welcome to Xanarth. This is a role-playing/ writing community for everyone. We do not descriminate against gender, race, or sexuality. We love everyone. In fact, we love everyone so much that we're willing to give you all cookies. They're virtual cookies, but cookies nonetheless. Did you know that 'nonetheless' is a word, but 'moreso' isn't? Funny, huh? Sorry. ADD/ mood disorder kicking in. Those mental health issues plus the soda I just downed make for a very crazy Caroline.
I truly hope that you enjoy your stay here. Please read the Rules/ FAQ. Thanks!
